Mathis Saunier
Mathis Saunier is a French composer based in London, UK. His work is known for blending electronic, acoustic, and visual elements (including lights and web-based soundscape apps), drawing influences from techno, hyper-pop, noise, and industrial sounds. He is the artistic director, guitarist, and composer of the pop-noise band Mauvais Sang.
In 2022, he graduated in composition at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he studied with Matthew Kaner and Hollie Harding. He collaborates with international ensembles such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Collective, Ligeti Quartet, Exaudi, the Nouvel Ensemble de Neuchâtel (NEC), and the United Strings of Europe, or soloist musicians such as Lotte Betts Dean, Zubin Kanga. He is a Britten Pears Young Artist 2023/24.
His music is performed in Europe and the US, in venues such as Royal Festival Hall Southbank (London), Barbican (London), Festival Antigel (Geneva), Musica Festival (Strasbourg), Leeds Lieder Festival, Milton Court, LSO St Luke’s, and Snape Maltings; it has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, France Inter, and RTS Radio.
Besides those projects, Mathis developed a conceptual instrument based on a guitar setup to obtain the sound of the Ondes Martenot. He collaborated with composers such as Anna Meredith and Laurence Crane on his Ondes Martenot arrangements album.
