James Oldham

James Oldham is a composer and performer based in London. His practice is a playful yet precise exploration of temporal devices and changes of situation. Content may emerge from every day observations, data sets, or performance contexts.

As both composer and performer, James’s output is most notably with Waste Paper Opera, for whom he is founder and co-artistic director. Waste Paper Opera’s current project, “Dead Cat Bounce” has recently been performed at Somerset House and at Open Lab, Matadero, Madrid. As a performer he works regularly with Brooklyn-based performance group Object Collection, as well as Ensemble Moliere, Rita Says and Jerico Orchestra, The Bank Accounts, Joe Lycett, and on the London cabaret scene.

James is in the final stages of an AHRC-funded research project on comic timing in music at the University of Southampton and Bath Spa University, receiving supervision from Matthew Shlomowitz and James Saunders.
